Natural Remedies for IBS Flare-Ups: Sweat, Detox, and Gut Support
Share
I am no stranger to an IBS flare up. I was in and out of the hospital with gas pains since I can remember. Luckily, the days of feeling miserable and unable to make plans are OVER! I've learned natural remedies for IBS and bloating relief, along with general gut health tips to keep you and your microbiome happy.
Sweat It Out to Reduce Bloating
First and foremost, find a way to sweat. Sweating pushes out toxins that your stomach is clearly having a hard time clearing, in most cases, this will quickly alleviate a lot of pain. Look, I get it, the last thing anyone wants to do when they're writhing on the floor in pain is workout, so the best alternative ways to break a sweat are:
- Sauna - heat helps break down inflammation and encourage the body to release toxins via the skin pores while sweating. If you can find an Infrared Sauna - even better - these saunas penetrate 7 layers deep to support your organs to thrive.
- Hot Body of Water / Bathtub - I don't recommend a chlorine hot tub, but if that's all you have... ideally a very hot bathtub (with a water filter) and you can add household salt, magnesium salts, or even zeolite to provide the body with extra support and electrolytes.
- PEMF Mat or heating pad - these take longer to break a sweat but boy do they help! Bon Charge makes my favorite PEMF mat because it also has infrared and near infrared red lights.
*Be sure to rehydrate and remineralize when you sweat! I love to do this with our refreshing Kiwi Lemonade Gut-Skin Electrolytes. Seriously I chug it! Then I have zero lightheadedness.
The Power of Castor Oil Packs
Queen of Thrones is the best, use organic in glass and organic cloths only! The skin is the largest organ and we don't want to reintroduce toxins, microplastics and pesticides to the system in the name of wellness. But be weary of a castor oil pack or sweating out toxins without...
Binders for Gut-Support
Taking binders like Activated Charcoal, from the nearest pharmacy aisle, will oftentimes support you in reducing your pain, very fast. They bind to whatever is wreaking havoc on your system and they drag it out. My favorite binders are created by Cell Core, they're just a bit pricier (for good reason).
Hot Tea
Mint or chamomile tea are soothing and relaxing for the gut without adding pressure onto your digestion. You can even mix 1 or 1/2 a serving of our Unflavored Gentle Prebiotics to encourage movement in my bowels and supports the body's natural detox pathways.
Magnesium Spray
Sometimes my flare up is simply from stress and my stomach is cramping. The fastest way to solve cramping is with magnesium - oftentimes the way my intestines respond best is with a high quality spray.
Digestive Enzymes
Digestive Enzymes help us breakdown foods that our body might be having a hard time doing on its own, they also have the power to increase nutrition absorption. This can provide your body with more fuel to improve digestion overtime! We love brands like Aeva and the kiwi prebiotic fiber in our Kiwi Lemonade Electrolytes contain digestive enzymes that specifically target protein digestion.
